Please join SID-Washington's Development Information Workgroup for a presentation on the World Computer Exchange.

The World Computer Exchange (WCE) is a global education and environment nonprofit helping to connect youth in 65 developing countries to the skills, opportunities and understanding of the Internet - while keeping used, working computers out of landfills.

WCE initiatives include:

  • What makes a good computer donation program
  • How volunteers and university groups help WCE Partners by testing, installing, and networking donated computers (and training those in developing nations to maintain the computers over time)
  • E-Waste recycling:  Creating learning opportunities and advocacy programs
  • Opportunities to partner with WCE

Come explore how you might use WCE's successful grassroots collaborative model for your own ICT projects (and related work) in developing nations.

WCE is a model for coalescing disparate grassroots organizations.  Working with 380 field volunteers, 177 programme officers, and 450 partner organizations, WCE builds capacity on the ground for community project planning, partnership development, fund raising, tech support, teacher training, shipping logistics, digital libraries, youth exchanges, and responsible e-waste disposal.
