Dennis de Tray

Dennis de Tray is an independent consultant working on issues of post-conflict and fragile states. From February, 2006, until August, 2008, he served as vice president at the Center for Global Development. Before joining CGD he spent 23 years at the World Bank where he was country director for the five Central Asian Republics, stationed in Almaty, Kazakhstan (2001-2006), and for Indonesia, stationed in Jakarta (1994-1999). Prior to moving to the Bank’s operations complex, he was head of the Living Standards Measurement Unit (1983-85), and Research Administrator for the Bank’s centrally funded research program (1987-1991). Dr. de Tray also worked for the IMF as Senior Representative for Vietnam in Hanoi from 1999 to 2001. From 1971 to 1983, Dr. de Tray was a researcher at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, CA. During a two-year leave-of-absence from RAND he served as Resident Research Advisor at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics in Islamabad.  Dr. de Tray holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago.
